Belle & Sebastian on our mission to deliver plenty of music and tour the hell out of it in 2018, they are a band who are consistently, well consistent and consistently, Belle & Sebastian.  The Glaswegians will deliver their 2nd instalment of their trilogy How To Solve Our Human Problems this week, The Same Star is B&S at their sugar pop best.  “My capacity to be delighted by pop music has not waned,” say’s lead singer, Stuart Murdoch.

  • Label: Labrador Records
  • Field: Malmo, Sweden
  • Flocks: Electronic Lo-Fi Pop

TRD make no fuss with their music, they haven’t done since their debut nearly 15 years ago, and without breaking any traditions, the duo have delivered another impressive cut of washed out dreamy pop music without much notice or attention.  This is what the band do best, they don’t claim to be anything other than content pop songwriters that have proved consistent with each delivery. Their 18th studio album Walk Between Worlds is out February.

  • Artist: Rhye
  • Cut: Song For You
  • Label: Universal Music
  • Field: Los Angeles, USA
  • Flocks: Mellow Pop, Indie Soul
  • Flavours Of: Perfume Genius, Active Child, Sade

Los Angeles duo Rhye delivered their debut album Woman to much acclaim, lead vocalist Milosh had many wondering who was behind that soulful and mesmerizing voice.  With the delivery of a few musical cuts over the last 4 months, they are soon to deliver their follow-up album and judging by Song For You the beautiful chemistry between production and songwriting is just as precious.  An exciting album for 2018 is upon us.

  • Artist: Ride
  • Cut: Catching You Dreaming
  • Label: Wichita
  • Field: Oxford, UK
  • Flocks: Shoegaze, Dream Rock
  • Flavours Of: Small Black, Washed Out

27 years ago, Ride delivered a debut (Nowhere) that set the bar for the genre of shoegaze music that was spewing out of the United Kingdom, an album full of washed out distorted guitars that were layered to perfection, a sound that defined a generation.  Who would have thought that in 2018 we would hear yet more music, following their excellent release Weather Diaries, late last year.  The Oxford 4-piece are back again with a new EP Tomorrow’s Shores, and this is a gentle taster, their most tranquil and mellow work for some time.

  • Artist: Simple Minds
  • Cut: The Signal and the Noise
  • Label: BMG
  • Field: Glasgow, Scotland
  • Flocks: Indie Rock
  • Flavours Of: U2, Depeche Mode

Formed in 1977, Glaswegians Simple Minds are still “Alive and Kicking”, celebrating 40 years in music, we find the band back in outstanding form and embracing the future with The Signal and the Noise, a perfectly rounded stadium cut with nods to their unwavering 80s sound that they helped carve, influencing so many bands in the commercial charts today.  Perhaps it wont jolt a cult following of youthful musical lovers, but it will reignite a respect that many of us have for this long-standing band.
