Midnight Sister (Los Angeles) SOAP (London) Sloane Peterson (Perth) Baby Blue (Melbourne) Rotoscope (Virginia)

Weaning Lambs is excited to be back.  The rules are simple, we receive music from around the world to our inbox, we then listen to it, if we like it and we know it’s new new new, then we share it.  If you are an artist or band and you want to be he(a)rd, give Weaning Lambs a shot.  This week, we once again travel the world and find some real musical treasures that you probably havent heard before.

  • Artist: Midnight Sister
  • Cut: Blue Cigar
  • Label: Jagjaguwar
  • Field: Los Angeles, California
  • Flocks: Glitchy Art Pop, 60’s inspired
  • Flavours Of: Foxygen, Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci, Cate Le Bon

Musical duo Juliana Giraffe and Ari Balouzian from LA’s San Fernando Valley delivered cut Blue Cigar a month or two back, but in honour of this Jagjaguwar signed band, and the delivery of their debut album Saturn Over Sunset, this was the perfect way to get you acquainted. Giraffe was raised almost exclusively on disco and David Bowie, evident in the theatre, while Balouzian is classically trained and already a go-to arranger for odd-pop names like Tobias Jesso Jr. and Alex Izenberg.

  • Artist: SOAP
  • Cut: Golden Ages
  • Label: Unknown
  • Field: London, United Kingdom
  • Flocks: Indie Pop/ 90’s brit pop
  • Flavours Of: Super Furry Animals, Supergrass, The Boo Radleys

Back in early 2000’s a band called Hard-Fi hit the number 1 spot with their debut Stars of CCTV and this is lead singer/songwriter Richard Archer’s new project.  A short, sharp and rather infectious pop cut helped along by friends Dale Davis (Amy Winehouse) on bass and Smiley Bernard (Joe Strummer/Archive) on drums along with long term collaborator Krysten Cummings on back up vocals.

  • Artist: Sloan Peterson
  • Cut: I Want You
  • Label: Mirror Records
  • Field: Sydney, Australia
  • Flocks: Singer/Songwriter, Pop
  • Flavours Of: Frankie Cosmos, Tennis, Nancy Sinatra

Joe Jackson (aka Sloan Peterson) is no “flash in the pan”, having crafted her melodic swagger since she was at a riper age (now only 24), although Sloan Peterson, may well be her most accomplished.  I Want You was recently delivered from her upcoming debut EP Midnight Love, the cut written when Jackson was only 17.  A gentle and gliding nod to the 60s with a gritty feel of Australian suburbia.

  • Artist: Baby Blue
  • Cut: Soccer Ball
  • Label:  Unknown
  • Field: Melbourne, Australia
  • Flocks: Indie Blues, Lo-Fi Pop
  • Flavours Of: Waxahatchee, Big Thief, Sports

Melbourne band Baby Blue truly capture a quintessential 60’s vibe on Soccer Ball, delivered a little while back, we feature it this week thanks to the delivery of their accompanying video.  Listen deeper to the track and you can here some neat details that give it so much more depth than on first listen.  A great Australian band with a whole lot of swagger.

  • Artist: Rotoscope
  • Cut: Clean Lines
  • Label: Unknown
  • Field:  Virginia, USA
  • Flocks: Electro-pop, Ethereal Pop
  • Flavours Of: Depeche Mode, MAPS, The Mary Onettes

John Athayde delivered Clean Lines a few months back but in lead up to the delivery of the debut EP, out October 27th, we thought it worthwhile to deliver this harmoniously melodic slow-burner. There are some clear influences here and plenty of emotion that is enough to dig deep into the heart strings.
