The discovery of new music through direct contact with artists/bands and promoters is sheer joy for us, not to rely on radio stations or mainstream media is so refreshing. We again had the privilege of listening to some excellent music, 5 cuts from 5 bands we have delivered to you direct. From Hobart, we offer Chase City and then it’s over to New York to hear the unique vocals of Francie Moon and the African indie beats of TEACHERS. We are excited to offer a great dream-pop band from Istanbul and finally its the provocative naughtiness of Stockholm’s’ Angie. Listen in and you’ll know what we mean.
Weaning Lamb Chase City
Based In Hobart, Tasmania
Flavours of The Wombats, The Lulu Raes, Death Cab For Cutie
Give it time and you will find Chase City seep into your pop sensibilities to the point of no return. Emerging from Triple J Unearthed 2013 Falls Festival competition, the four-piece haven’t looked back and have been strongly embraced by local community radio, worldwide blogs and Spotify via their ‘New Music Friday’ playlist. Lets see if these guys can build the buzz that flies around The Lulu Raes. Great to see the Hobart music scene making it’s mark.
Weaning Lamb Angie
Cut Smoke Weed Eat Pussy
Based In Stockholm, Sweden
Flavours of Lana Del Ray, FKA Twigs, Lorde
It would be fair to suggest that to release a song with this title is simply a way to create provocation and attention, but Angie’s debut is clever and remarkably talented. A tear away from a young age, she used to be found riding her bike around Stockholm, stealing flowers from her neighbour’s gardens, but now she’s more far likely to be skating the streets and celebrating sensimilia.
Weaning Lamb Francie Moon
Cut Red Cloud Road
Based In Brooklyn, New York
Flavours of Lapsley, Banks, Paloma Faith
Melissa Lucciola aka Francie Moon is a hard working singer/songwriter who has spent the last few years travelling her home country to share the sheer excellence of her unique take on bluesy indie rock. Musically inspired by a 50s vibe, dipped in soulful harmonies, Lucciola’s vocals are intriguing and sublime. Sheer brilliance and talent.
Weaning Lamb The Away Days
Cut World Horizon
Based In Istanbul, Turkey
Flavours of Small Black, Wild Nothing, Teen Daze
The Away Days are really far beyond a feature on Weaning Lambs, they are have a stable international following but here in Oz we doubt many would know of this foursome from Istanbul. ‘World Horizon’ is dreamy, mellow and gentle. Their support slots to bands like Massive Attack and Belle & Sebastian is well deserved but with this new cut, we may well see this European gang landing their own European headline slots.
Weaning Lamb TEACHERS
Based In New York City, New York
Flavours of Talking Heads, Hot Chip, The Presets
TEACHERS are an enigmatic four-piece-band from New York City, their new cut ‘Oceans’ is an afro-disco mash-up 80s/90s dance filler. There is so much joy and ridiculous coolness in ‘Oceans’ that is familiar in its repetitive groove but perfectly unique in its production.
