Weaning Lambs returns for another batch of new songs from artists/bands who are worthy of support. With thanks to the hundreds of artists and bands around the world, we feel privileged to have the opportunity to listen to some fine music, but we have to select 5, it’s the rules! This week we have 3 great tracks from Australian artists including the cool swagger of Wesley Fuller, Jack from The Harpoons, side project Shouse and Why We Run, a band that we continue to support. We also deliver the excellent Stone Cold Fox from Brooklyn and finally the eclectic and clever pop from Bur Gur. Enjoy!
Based In Melbourne
Kind Of Reminds Us Of Temples, Jagwar Ma
Surrounded by an impressive tuft of ‘70s curls and backed by a troupe of some great Melbourne musicians , Wesley Fuller has delivered a 60s infused track that oozes cool, thumping disco beats, a bit of familiarity and perfect swagger. There are big things planned for this Australian artist, with his debut EP set for 10th June.
Track Change My Mind
Based In Brooklyn
Kind Of Reminds Us Of Wild Nothing, Small Black
Noisey described Stone Cold Fox’s music as “music that blurs the line between electronic and indie, creating a very pleasing, enticing sound…” I think we can confidently take a step further to say that this is more than “pleasing”, we would go as far to say that this is intelligent and catchy pop music that takes just enough influence from 80s pop to make it stand confidently apart from so many similar artists out there churning this sort of stuff.
Track Support Structure
Based In Melbourne
Kind Of Reminds Us Of Miguel Migs, Naked Music, Blue Six
The Wandering Lamb doesn’t often get the chance to listen to a much House music, to be honest, we don’t get much crossing our path. Jack, part of the excellent The Harpoons has collaborated with Ed from IO’s, delivers this side project, a track that takes us back to the summer vibes of the 90s, when luscious house music was at its peak. This track is hot and a nice change for our musical ears.
Track A Moment To Return
Based In Sydney
Kind Of Reminds Us Of City Calm Down, Frightened Rabbit
We featured Why We Run in March 2015 on our now deceased Video Box feature for their single Comfortable Lie. We couldn’t go passed their latest video and single Moment to Return. Perhaps not a Weaning Lamb any more, we throw it end anyhow as we had to help get this one out there.
Track If I Was A Child
Based In Los Angeles
Kind Of Reminds Us Of Animal Collective, Panda Bear
Again this is an artist would sit comfortably as a Prime Cut feature track but as we have only discovered Bur Gur, we just had to add this as our final 5. At 3 mins 45 seconds, this is gloriously messed up samples, glitches, melody and clever pop sensibilities. Bur Gur are tropical noise pop duo made up of Corbin Clarke and Makan Negahban and we urge you to check them out.
