ft. Royksopp, SWOON(Fanfarlo), Spring King, Beacon, Arthur Beatrice

Sometimes the best way to share new music is to draw comparisons so that you, the follower of The Wandering Lamb can form an instant reference to a track even before you have heard it.  Many bands hate being compared, it is not a question of trying to sound like, it is a point of reference.  The purpose is less about the artist but more about the reader and if we can get the comparison right (we list it as Kind of Reminds us of) we may well be able to get you listening to new music and supporting new artists/bands.  So, this week we highlight our comparisons for you and see if we can get you reaching out to new music.  Royksopp (Aphex Twin), SWOON (Animal Collective), Spring King (FIDLAR), Beacon (RUFUS), Arthur Beatrice (Florence and The Machine)

Kind of Reminds us of  Flying Lotus, Aphex Twin

Traditionally, Royksopp have always delivered consistent electronic alt dance music, somewhat pioneers in their illustrious career you may say.  This mind bending 8 minute track was created using samples from Star Wars films for the Star Wars Headspace Compilation.  This is Royksopp at their darkest and most menacing.

For fans of Fanfarlo, you probably wont find much in the way of comparison of this side project for lead singer Simon Balthazar.  For fresh ears this is an all out alternative disco dance filler complete with groovin’ bass line, Talking Heads inspired vocals and some deliciously layered synths that keep you moving in pure interest and delight.

Kind of Reminds us of  The Vaccines, FIDLAR

Manchester is bringing the music home, there has been some great music coming out of Manc City and Spring King are another.  This is pure blistering garage rock that saw the band tick the box of SXSW festival, a support tour with Courtney Barnett and good rotation on BBC 6 Music.  Spring King will certainly be ones to watch at this years European summer festivals.

Cut From  Brooklyn, New York

Kind of Reminds us of  Rhye, RUFUS, Massive Attack

Beacon are a duo from Brooklyn who we stumbled across just like a great Australian wine, we simply looked at the label (cover art) and thought, “this looks interesting”.  What we found was a rich weave of electronic music that explores the dark side of sweet melody mixed with a sound that’s as seductive as it is subtly discomfiting.  This is a must for your ears this week.

Artist  Arthur Beatricearthur

Cut  Real Life

Cut From  London, United Kingdom

Kind of Reminds us of  Florence and the Machine, Woman’s Hour, London Grammar

Arthur Beatrice released a great debut in 2014, drawing comparisons to Warpaint and The XX but with this track the band step it up (hugely) with a full and epic sound. Real Life evidently shows that the band are ready to be taken serious, lead singer Ella Girardot is at her soaring best.
