Weaning Lamb Jaalajaala

Track Hard Hold

Based In Melbourne, Australia

File Next To St Vincent, tUnE-yArDs

About to head off on a national tour in support of Hiatus Kayote as well as an appearance at Brisbane’s BIGSOUND music conference, local newcomers Jaala (fronted by singer/songwriter/guitarist Cosima Jaala, also of Melbourne band Manglewurzel) are certainly a name to watch out for. With an ecclectic mix of bouncing indie rock, neo-jazz and unique vocal work, be sure to catch something very special as they make their way around the country.

Weaning Lamb Gold Classgoldclass

Track Life As A Gun

Based In Melbourne, Australia

File Next To Eagulls, New War

Sticking close to home but this time heading towards a dark, post punk feel punctuated by powerful, baritone vocals, Melbourne’s Gold Class premiere their new video for ‘Life As A Gun’ in the lead up to their debut album ‘It’s You’ which is due for release on the 4th of September via Spunk records. Featuring an equally bleak, film noir style video directed by fellow Melbourne musician Geoffrey O’Connor.

Weaning Lamb The Woolly Bushmenwoollybushmen

Track Sky Bosses

Based In Orlando, Florida

File Next To 13th Floor Elevators, The Count Five

Featuring some seriously old-school sounds and recording techniques, Florida’s Woolly Bushmen are here for a rollicking good time on this, title track from their recently released album on Daddy Kool Records. A little bit of blues, a serious helping of Nuggets appreciation and some fantastic cover art make for a fantastic take on a very important time in musical history.

Weaning Lamb Ha The Unclearhatheunclear

Track Growing Mould

Based In Auckland, New Zealand

File Next To The Wombats, Mystery Jets

‘Growing Mould’ is the third single from debut album ‘Bacterium, Look At Your Motor Go’, which is a perfectly charming slice of upbeat indie pop featuring jangly guitars, intriguing lyrics and a thick Kiwi accent from singer Michael Cathro. The imaginative production on the video below gives it a Instagram meets design magazine feel – flat lays, geometric designs and Wes Anderson colour palettes – a joy for the eyes and ears equally.

Weaning Lamb Gladesglades

Track Falling Away

Based In Sydney

File Next To London Grammar, The xx

This young Sydney trio are crafting a rich meld of electronic indie pop, featuring some lush, reverb washed vocals from Katrina Wykes. With the help of Cam Robertson and Joseph Wenceslao on production/guitar/synth duties, make sure to keep and ear and eye out for this group who are currently gaining massive momentum.

Weaning Lamb Jay Penaflorjaypenaflor

Track Hypnotist

Based In Melbourne, Australia

File Next To Bombay Bicycle Club, Real Estate

‘Hypnotist’ is track number two on three track EP ‘Human Abstracts’ from Melbourne singer/songwriter Jay Penaflor. Together with his band, Tom Grubb and Ryan Haustofer, Jay makes floating dream pop with indie sensibilities. All three tracks from the EP (as well as hidden track ‘Revival’) possess a unique feel which make up an extremely solid release from the 22 year old – this track happens to be my favourite.
