Weaning Lambs #6 ft. Stray Echo, Mcrobin, R.W. Grace, Flyte and Shormey

This week’s Weaning Lambs are a very special bunch. As are every batch of Weaning Lambs of course, but this week we really took a moment to contemplate why we do this. Why we really love discovering new music, from local fields to far away places. From bands and artists who might be doing well in their home cities but are yet to branch over seas (or land), all the way to artists who are just dipping their toes into the world of the music industry. Take for instance, the compelling electronica of R.W. Grace from Perth, who is about to break it big all over Australia, contrasting to Shormey from Virginia, USA, who’s debut track is a real step in the right direction. We want to make sure that the Weaning Lambs are about new music for everyone, by everyone. That’s what it’s all about, right?!

Weaning Lamb Stray Echostrayecho

Track Ground feat. Lolo

Based In Brooklyn, NYC

File Next To MSMR

Even though this is really a new school electro-pop track, Ground has its roots in 80’s soul music. A real party starter with a mid tempo groove, the duo vocals on this track glide smoothly over a beat that is certain to get bodies moving at that next house party.

Mcrobin Presser 1Weaning Lamb Mcrobin

Track In

Based In Melbourne, Australia

File Next To Father John Misty

Described as “alternative folk music”, Melbourne local Mcrobin presents the track In, a melding of traditional folk ideas with a very modern vibe of live drums, synths and unconventional guitar lines. A refreshing take on the genre.

rwgraceWeaning Lamb R.W. Grace

Track Shell

Based In Perth, Melbourne

File Next To FKA Twigs

Already with a fast growing fan base, R.W. Grace is making some seriously captivating electronica with a haunting vocal and pulsating backbeat. Already having supported Alt-J on their Australian tour and working with Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio), this single is surely only a stepping stone her career.

flyteWeaning Lamb Flyte

Track Closer Together

Based In London, UK

File Next To Vampire Weekend

Crafting insanely catchy indie pop that blends sunny synth lines with classic guitar tones, Flyte have already been playing shows all around the UK and gaining some serious love wherever they go. Closer Together is a perfect example of their uplifting tunes that will undoubtedly have you chasing the sun as singing along before you realise it.

shormeyWeaning Lamb Shormey

Track Party Down

Based In Chesapeake, Virginia, USA

File Next To Toro Y Moi, Blood Orange

Shormey comes to us from Chesapeake, East Coast USA, busting out of nowhere with this sparkling neo-soul track Party Down. This is Shormey’s first track that she has written and produced herself, and given this strike rate, we here at Weaning Lambs are very keen to hear what’s next. A lush, delicately layered track that yearns for summer holidays and good times.
