Prime Cuts_Week Forty Seven

haerts-500x5001. Artist_ Haerts

Cut_ Wings

Moments of_ Wild Nothing, Washed Out, Zola Jesus, Florence Welch

Hugely radio friendly single Wings from international band Haerts doesn’t shy away from its instantly recognisable pop tune.  Bordering too friendly, this is a soaring track and a standout from their most recent self-titled album

Royksopp-Happy-Birthday-440x4402. Artist_ Royksopp

Cut_ Running to the Sea

Moments of_ Pet Shop Boys, Air, M83

Royksopp released Melody A.M back in 2001, heading towards its 15 year anniversary, the Norwegian duo continue to churn out some not bad tunes and although heading down the commercial path, still lead the way in electronic music.

3. Jack Ladder & The Dreamlanders

Cut_ Her Hands

Moments of_ Nick Cave, Nine Inch Nails

Eccentric and extremely talent Australian singer/songwriter Jack Ladder took some time out and returns having dusted the Nick Cave references away for good, instead, turning all electronic on us.  Stick with it, this is a real grower.

4. Antony & The Johnsons

Cut_ You Are My Sister

Moments of_ Boy George, Rufus Wainwright, Nina Simone

Taken from his wonderful passionate album I Am Bird Now, originally sung with Boy George, this orchestral rendition is touching, beautifully and so heartfelt. All we could find was the complete album, so enjoy the whole thing.

5. TV On The Radio

Cut_ Could You

Moments of_ Prince, Kele, (well TV on the Radio really)

TV on the Radio release Seeds a big album that sees the band take a more commercial approach.  Nothing has yet come close to the first single from the album, Happy Idiot, but this one comes close.

6. Silk Rhodes

Cut_ Could You

Moments of_ Prince, TV on the Radio, Blood Orange

Silk Rhodes is made up of Baltimore producer Michael Collins and vocalist Sasha Desree, together they make soul music with a difference, slightly minimal and stripped its quite a winning combination.
